Eyrnabólga
[Nobody slept well in this house last night. Around 2 am Anna started waking up every 30 mins or so crying and complaining of an ear ache. We gave her some painkillers but it didn’t really seem to help much. So we took her to see a doctor this morning who diagnosed her with an ear infection that had ruptured her right ear drum. Apparently it should grow back in 24 hours, so “no big deal”. To fix the problem she got antibiotics and ear drops for 7 days and we replenished our Children’s Tylenol supply. She was looking a lot better this afternoon so all should be well soon.
Bjarki’s status is unchanged, still doing his thing and keeping his nurses busy tuning his oxygen. I’m still coughing, and hoping that the virus doesn’t spread up into my head although, if the popping in my ears is any indication, I think it’s trying its best. Finnur remains healthy, albeit tired, after a non-stop run of work and evening hospital visits. I can’t wait until this endless sick-season ends.]
[I went to visit Bjarki tonight and I must say I recognize my boy again. Last night he seemed unlike himself, annoyed and uncomfortable and kept experiencing a drop in oxygen saturation. Tonight, however, he seemed completely different: content and was back to his old self. He fell asleep in my arms as usual after getting his milk and slept soundly.
Last night I was getting worried he was getting sick, but after visiting him tonight I have changed my mind because he seemed normal again. I also noticed that the other babies in the ward are starting to look small compared to Bjarki, which feels comforting. The comparison isn’t always comforting, though, as I found out tonight when a sick premie was flown in by a helicopter as I was getting ready to leave. That premie looked to me like roughly the same size and development stage as Reynir when he was born and even got “Reynir’s bed” by accident. Since my job was done as far as Bjarki was concerned I decided not to relive unpleasant moments and went home.
Once I got home Hrefna had taken the milk in our fridge-freezer and moved it to the standing freezer, and formally labelled it full! 🙂 We counted 480 bottles, which we think is about 24 liters of milk (about 6.3 gallons)! 🙂]
[Stretching as he just woke up]
Kominn í fangið á pabba og tilbúinn að fá að borða.
