Þriggja vikna
[The days keep passing and Bjarki Freyr is now three weeks old, or -11 weeks old, or 29 weeks old, all depending on your point of view. He got measured today and his head circumference is 26 cm, and he’s 39 cm long (34.5 cm when he was born). It was fun seeing him without his CPAP hat and nose-piece today, it’s been a while. He really is a very cute boy just like the nurses keep saying! They keep talking about how blond he is, apparently most of the babies they see are darker.
Thankfully, he seems to be recovering from last Tuesday’s “bad day”. They’ve started the milk feeds again and he seems to be tolerating them just fine. That means the milk is disappearing from the stomach and into the intestines, and coming out as pee and poop. (Yes, babies are all about pee and poop, even preemies).
Actually, as I was changing his poopy diaper today, he of course did me the favor of pooping into the new clean diaper that I’d strategically placed under his bottom while cleaning him. He was then without a diaper for a few seconds, which he productively used to squirt poop all over his bed, the bed-wall and over on to the floor! Anna used to be quite good at those squirts too… But it sure was a good thing I was about to hold him, since his entire bedding had to be changed, and he seemed more relaxed being held than often before after all the pooping.
Not much else going on really. Talked to the lactation lady who suggested I cut back to pumping six times a day instead of seven. I’m currently producing about 850 mL per day and it’s looking more and more like I’ll end up donating some milk since there just isn’t storage for all this milk! So we’ll see how that goes. Finnur took his mom to Google today and impressed her with the free food and stories of all the amenities. She was duly impressed. 🙂]
Eins og áður
[Bjarki was more his old self today, and they decided to use the opportunity since his IV was still in and give him more blood to “top him off”. He’s still “desatting” etc. but that’just “what he does” .]
