The Panic As Usual
It appears that a couple of days before leaving Iceland for USA, something happens that really gets us panicked! Last year it was the fact that Finnur couldn’t enter the USA ahead of me, since we were initiating a new VISA, and he’s my “poodle” (i.e. my dependant). This threw a huge wrench into our plans and ended up costing us some money.
Today the panic was “Where’s Finnur’s very expensive laptop that he just got at work?!?!”. We roamed the house and the best we could come up with was that we’d left the computer at Finnur’s sister’s house last night – but she said she hadn’t seen it. Then we wondered if we’d left it in the car overnight and it had been stolen, but the car hadn’t been visibly broken into – and I hadn’t left it unlocked earlier in the morning when I went to the shop. So while Finnur’s face became paler and paler and we were planning an emergency checkup on his sister’s house, I called his mum just to make sure she hadn’t tucked the laptop away into a closet somewhere that morning…
She said she’d done no such thing, but that Finnur’s dad had taken a laptop to work that morning. That gave us a glimmer of hope, so we called Finnur’s dad at work, who thought the laptop (that was sitting in the backseat of his car at this point) was Finnur’s mum’s laptop (!!!) – and we breathed a sigh of relief! Sure enough, the laptop was Finnur’s and slowly the color came back to his cheeks… 🙂
Yesterday…
As today was the showing of “Finnur the Pale”, yesterday was a showing of “Finnur the Champion”! My grandma had asked us some time ago to see if we could move our 40 or so boxes out of the garage we’d been keeping them in, into a smaller storage in the same house, so my grandma could rent out the garage. I was rather reluctant to do this, being pregnant and thus “no help at all” – but Finnur took it all in his stride and just whipped the boxes from A to B – allowing me to take the “light as a feather” boxes… 🙂
After all that, he went to fix his 10th computer of the trip and I went to see Hildur and Þórdís along with Adda. We finished off the day with a scrumptious dinner at Finnur’s sister’s (Inga) place, and played a game of Settlers afterwards. 🙂
