The Class Birthday Party (aka Anna’s 10th Birthday Party #2)
We again decided to host Anna’s class birthday party at a local ice skating rink (see 8th and 9th year skating parties).
This time we joined forces with another family, who’s girl also has a December birthday. This again worked out really well, in part because we (the two moms) both remembered to bring stuff the other had forgotten! So yes, I’m totally sold on this double-birthday concept! 🙂
Thankfully, Finnur’s parents could babysit Emma, so I only had Anna and Bjarki with me at the skating rink, and let me tell you, keeping track of two is easy! 😉
We arrived pretty late in the day (4 pm) and they’d already refreshed the ice so it was nice and smooth. The only downside was that they closed at 6 pm, so the skating ended pretty abruptly. (11 images total and two videos)

The kids and I had made carrot-cup cakes that morning instead of a proper birthday cake. They turned out pretty well except the recipe seems to have too much oil in it. (And yes, the other girl’s name is also Anna!)

Bjarki asking when I’d join him on the ice. He actually did really well that day. He started out all “I caaaan’t doooo iiiit”, but then I gave him a few pointers before dashing off to fetch some stuff, and before the end of the day he’d figured out how to jump on the skates! Sadly, I only manged to go out on the ice at the very beginning, because we were too busy being hosts after the cakes came out. Better luck next time!

… followed shortly by a speeding Anna (“To go fast you just have to lean forward a bit and bend your knees” she said excitedly as I nodded my head and pretended really hard not to have told her this a million times.)

Yeees, I brought my zoom lens. Sadly my flash was pretty much out of batteries so taking pictures didn’t go so well.

Sun-lolly time! It was freeeeezing outside, so I just left the lollies in the trunk of our car until it was time to serve them. Who needs freezers!
Google Plus helpfully edited together a few of the videos I took.
Cleaning up was a breeze and we were out of there shortly after 6 pm. We went to pick up Emma, and then it was home to cook a quick dinner and put the kids to bed. The evening was spent doing housewife-y things to prepare for dear hubby (finally!) returning from California the next morning.
And that was the end of Anna’s Epic Birthday Weekend. (… but this won’t be the end of the Birthday Celebrating… nope, not at all!)
