Anna’s Second Swim Meet
[Written 26 October 2012]
I mentioned in a previous post that we’d given Anna a week to recuperate after taking her arm-splint off, before signing her up for trice-weekly hour-long swim practices with Breiðablik, our local sports club at our local pool. Well, three weeks later, it was time for the first swim meet of the season. It was a two-day meet (Friday and Saturday), but since we planned to leave town that weekend, Anna got signed up for two events on Friday only. They were perhaps somewhat longer swims than she would otherwise have swum, but she survived so I guess it was ok. 🙂
Since this was a pretty big meet, with three sports clubs in attendance, and competitors ranging from 7-20 years old, there were lots of heats, where they tried to match up kids of similar ability and/or age. Also, this was her second swim-meet ever, her first one was last November.
Here’s the video for the 100 m freestyle.

Anna placed second in her heat swimming 100 m freestyle. Her split times were 52.29 and 1:02.69. Last year, she swam 50 m in 57.51 seconds.

There were a lot of people there, since three clubs were in attendance. The competitors ranged in age from 7-20 years! The kids in the far corner are lined up to compete.
Here’s the video for the 50 m breaststroke.

She placed third in her heat, with a time of 1:22.22. Last year she swam the 25 m breaststroke in 50.88 (from a non-diving start).

Finnur came to pick us up after Anna’s second swim. We stopped to buy some sandwiches and summer-house food, before driving to Laugarvatn (1 hour). When we arrived there, Finnur’s parents had already put Bjarki to sleep (he’d gone with them the day before), and warmed up the house. We watched a little tv before heading to bed after a long day!
I will stress though, that our thinking with having Anna practice swimming isn’t so much for her to become an award-winning swimmer, but more to increase her endurance and rehabilitate her after she broke her arm this fall. 🙂
